Experience
Josh Adams is a shareholder at the firm. He has represented labor union clients across a wide spectrum of industries, including healthcare, the entertainment industry, education, heavy industry such as mining and public utilities, and public sector unions with county, state, municipal and court employees.
Throughout his career, Josh has handled the most complex and difficult legal matters that labor unions confront, including precedent-setting arbitrations in multi-employer units, economic and unfair practice strikes, and federal and state court litigation to enforce the rights of unions and employees. Josh often appears before the National Labor Relations Board, the California Public Employment Relations Board, and various other administrative agencies. He provides consultation and civil litigation defense in response to investigations by the U.S. Department of Labor into union internal affairs and union officer elections. Josh also provides human resources services to unions, conducts workplace investigations, and acts as defense counsel to unions facing claims against them by members and employees. Josh regularly aids unions during contentious organizing campaigns and collective bargaining.
In 2023 and 2024, Josh was recognized in Lawdragon’s 500 Plaintiff Employment Lawyers, an honor reserved for the top 500 plaintiff-side employment lawyers in the United States. Among examples of his litigation, in 2019 Josh successfully argued in state court to defeat a strike injunction filed against United Teachers Los Angeles before the largest teacher strike in California in 30 years. Litigation led by Josh in 2020 resulted in a groundbreaking Resolution by the Los Angeles Unified School District granting district-wide tenure rights to the overwhelming majority of teachers of Adult Education. Josh also regularly serves as class action counsel, including on behalf of warehouse workers, heavy industry workers, and entertainment industry employees, among others. Josh's cases in 2022 and 2023 including class action work led to settlements and decisions recovering millions of dollars for workers across multiple industries.
Josh is a graduate of Oberlin College with Honors, and a cum laude and Order of the Coif graduate of Loyola Law School in Los Angeles. In law school, he received numerous awards for outstanding academic achievement and for public service. Upon graduation, he served as a law clerk to the Honorable Dean D. Pregerson, a federal judge in the Central District of California.
Josh is an executive editor of the major legal treatise on internal union governance, entitled "Labor Union Law and Regulation"; and he is a contributing editor to the American Bar Association's primary treatise on private sector labor relations, “The Developing Labor Law." Josh serves as the current president of the Southern California Labor & Employment Relations Association.
